The deaths of David Miles Watson and John Whitmore Watson at Camp
Douglas in Chicago seem to follow the Camp Douglas death of their
cousin, Charles Riley Watson.
During the Civil War Camp
Douglas held over 18,000 Confederate prisoners. About 4,000
prisoners died at the camp. They were buried in unmarked paupers'
graves in Chicago's City Cemetery, loacated at the southeast corner
of what is now Lincoln Park. Remains were reburied in 1867 at
Oak Woods Cemetery, about five miles south of the Camp Douglas site.
