Because she and Henry died in the same year and location, some researchers suggest they may have passed away within a short time of one another, or that her death was recorded as part of the settlement of the family estate in the Newberry District (Bush River area).

Historical accounts, including those in "The Women of the American Revolution" (1850), note that Nancy's mother, Barbara, survived a significant conflict on the South Carolina frontier during which she was scalped by Cherokees but lived for many years afterward.

Some genealogical databases (such as FamilySearch and other Stedman family genealogies) suggest there may have been up to nine additional children, though many of their names are not as well-preserved in the primary records of Newberry County due to the early deaths of both parents in 1785.

James Alfred Stedman, also recorded with surname Steadman, was a veteran of the War of 1812. He served as a Private in Nash’s Regiment, South Carolina Volunteer Militia. Records indicate he served as a Justice of the Peace in St. Clair County, Alabama, during the early 1830s. His estate is documented in the District Court Records of St. Clair County (Probate Records A, pages 248-252) and Orphan's Court Minutes (Book B, page 250). These records contain a joint will for both James and his wife, Nancy. Some sources refine his death date to July 11, 1844.
